![]() My Message to the WorldPokémon Red & Blue StrategiesAs Ash, your goal when playing the Red or Blue version of Pokémon on the Game Boy (Pocket) is to collect information in your PokéDex about all 150+ types of Pokémon and to perfect your training skills until you earn the much coveted title Pokémon Master. By exploring the world of Pokémon, you'll encounter many challenges, including puzzles to solve, wild Pokémon to catch, and members of the evil group of gangsters known as Team Rocket to defeat. Your adventure begins in Pallet Town, Ash's hometown. Here, you must locate Professor Oak, be given your first Pokémon to train, and as you leave town, obtain a special map from Gary's sister (who can be found at Gary's House). Upon leaving Pallet Town, follow Route 1 toward Viridian City. Be sure to stop at the Mart where you'll be given a package to deliver to Professor Oak. The reward to delivering the package to Professor Oak is the PokéDex, with which you can gather data on all of the different types of Pokémon you encounter throughout your quest to become a Pokémon Master. Your journey will continue through Viridian City, along Route 2, and through Viridian Forest. Along the way, be sure to battle wild Pokémon in order to weaken and capture them using PokéBalls purchased from the Mart. You'll also want to build up the Levels of the Pokémon in you now growing collection, and teach them new and more powerful fighting moves. As you engage in battles against rival or wild Pokémon, switch your active Pokémon in mid-battle. Use your strongest Pokémon to win, but give your weaker Pokémon a chance to fight. By doing this, all of your Pokémon will benefit from a boost to their Level and Hit Points each time you're victorious. Certain Pokémon evolve into stronger types of Pokémon when they reach a specific level. For example, Charmander evolves into a Charmeleon when he reaches level 16 and then transforms into a Charizard when he reaches level 36. The higher a Pokémon's level, the stronger their fighting abilities become. Certain items, such as the Fire Stone, Moon Stone, Thunder Stone or Leaf Stone (which you can buy at the Celadon City Department Store) can be used to make a Pokémon instantly evolve no matter what level it's at. Early on, avoid using the 'Run' command to get out of battles against wild Pokémon. Use these battle experiences to boost the Level and HP of the Pokémon in your collection. Later, you can use Repel or Max Repel to avoid having to fight unnecessary battles against wild Pokémon. Make sure you're prepared to enter into battles with other trainers, because you can't 'Run' from those challenges. Before entering to battle, use power-ups, like Potions, Max Potions, Soda Pop, Max Elixer and Max Ether to replenish your most powerful Pokémon's PP and HP so they don't faint. At the Pewter City Gym, you'll meet up with Brock, the first of The Pokémon League Gym Leaders who you must defeat in order to obtain his Boulder Badge. Beating Brock's level 12 Geodude and level 14 Onix won't be easy, so bring along a few Potions to maintain the strength of your Pokémon in battle. After leaving Pewter City, travel along Route 3 toward Mt. Moon. This is a maze-like area that's very easy to get lost in. You'll find an Escape Rope to the extreme right of the First Floor that will return you to the entrance of this area if you get totally lost. Once you locate the exit of Mt. Moon, travel along Route 4 to Cerulean City. Misty, the Gym Leader, along with her two pals will be waiting to test your Pokémon battle skills at the Gym. You'll want to use your strongest Pokémon to battle Misty and obtain her Cascade Badge. Follow Routes 24 and 25 to the Sea Cottage. By helping Bill transform back into his normal form, you'll be given a ticket to board the S.S. Anne cruise ship, which departs from Vermilion City. As you explore Vermilion City, visit The Old Fishing Guru and obtain an Old Rod (for catching water-based Pokémon). You'll also want to get your hands on a Bike Voucher from the Pokémon Fan Club's president. You'll need to trade this voucher for a 10-speed bike at the Bike Shop in Cerulean City. Aboard the S.S. Anne, search for the Captain (located in his cabin on the second floor). He'll give you MH01, giving you the ability to teach one of your Pokémon the powerful Cut maneuver. Cut is an important skill you must obtain before continuing your quest. A bit later in your adventure, when you reach Celadon City, drop into the Department Store. Don't leave without several bottles of Soda or Lemonade (available from the vending machines on the top floor) and a Poké Doll. You'll need to give the drinks to guards later in order to get past certain blockades, like the one in Saffron City. The Silph Scope you'll be looking for in Celadon City is located within The Game Corner, on the Fourth Basement level, in an office occupied by Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket. Without the Silph Scope, you won't get through Pokémon Tower. As you trek onward, you'll discover Fuchsia City, where the Safari Zone is located. This is a perfect opportunity to capture many types of unusual Pokémon, so visit the Safari Zone at least twice. In Area 3 of the Safari Zone, grab the Gold Teeth. You'll need to trade them later. Also in Area 3 is The Secret House. Go inside and obtain the Surf ability, a skill you'll need to teach your water-based Pokémon. Later, when traveling along Route 16 (at the top of Cycling Road), go into the near by hut and chat with the trainer inside. You'll be given the HM02, the ability to teach certain Pokémon how to Fly. This ability will allow you to quickly travel to anywhere in The World of Pokémon you've already been. It's an ability every Pokémon trainer must acquire. After beating all of the Gym Leaders and gathering their badges, you'll be well on your way to becoming a true Pokémon Master. One of your final tests will be a series of Pokémon battles against the Elite Four at Indigo Plateau. Don't enter into these battles without stocking up on power-ups, like Max Potions, Revives and Full Restores. At the conclusion of these battles, Gary will be waiting to challenge you one final time. Only one person can win the title World's Greatest Pokémon Master. Once you're awarded this title, travel to the Unknown Dungeon. Here, you'll encounter one of the rarest Pokémon of them all - Mewtwo. The only way to capture him is by using the Master Ball, which you should have been given earlier by the President of The Silph Company. You'll only have one change to catch Mewtwo. Now that Ash is known throughout the world as a true Pokémon Master, he can travel anywhere using his Pokémon's Surf and Fly abilities, so he can easily go back to places he's already been in order to complete his Pokémon collection. While defeating Team Rocket and becoming a Pokémon Master are considered great achievements, Ash's ultimate goal is to catch all of the different types of Pokémon. He's gotta catch'em all!
